The "Virtual" Field trip..

As a result of Londyn's class walking through the hallways is an amazingly silent manner they won a "virtual" field trip. The class got to visit the Arctic. Matt and I figured since we had never been to the Arctic it might be a fun place to visit, plus neither of us have been on a virtual field trip. Turns out the virtual part is that we don't actually leave the school. The school gets turned into the location they planned to visit. The day went  like this....
Since you are going to an area of the world that is BEYOND cold we needed to dress properly.
All of the children put on their fur hats and boots (also know as, MuckLucks)

Next it was time to hope on the bus and scoot along to the Arctic....

Thankfully all the buses made it there safe and sound!

At last we have arrived...here is an igloo the Inuit people (Eskimos) live in. This was actually an igloo made out of milk jugs. It was awesome and appeared to be very time consuming. Some would say that igloo's have the faint scent of cottage cheese....strange!
We learned that most only had this little fire as a way to stay warm.  YIKES...I could never live there!!
Next we learned of the various animals that lived in the Arctic. It turns out that the word Eskimo mean eaters of raw flesh. Apparently they don't care to cook their food. For the full effect of life on the Arctic the room was also freezing!
This is Londyn helping tell about the different seasons. The Arctic still experiences all four seasons but on a much colder scale.
Londyn and her classmates got to read a story about the Arctic while enjoying the cozy "fire" and closeness the Inuit people enjoy.
As part of the day the children all got a chance to make a smaller igloo out of marshmallows. They actually turned out really cute.
Here is the finished project. Londyn decided when we got home that she needed to add some branches and paper so there was a fire for the people.
She is a cutie alright! No matter what she's wearing!

The Ogden Nature Center brought several different Owls. The particular Owl had a lot to say and Londyn thought it was funny. The people shared numerous facts about Owls that were quite interesting. At the end the children could all ask questions and Londyn asked, "How do owls drink?" Answer: They dip their beaks into the water and let the water trickle down their throats. Good question Londyn!
Here is a picture of all the little Inuit children at school. Yes, even in the frozen tundra the kids still have to hike to school or should I say hope on their sleds.

All in all the field trip was a great success and very educational, even for the parents. Matt and I had a great time spending the day with Londyn in the Arctic and we are both looking forward to more fun trips throughout the years.

AWE...Such a sweetie!

There are moments in a parents life when you realize you just might be teaching your children right. Today was one of them. Apparently, Londyn had been thinking about us (Matt, Boo and I) and decided to leave us all a little something on our pillows, as a surprise. Jessica (Londyn's adult supervisor, as Londyn has stated that she isn't a baby and doesn't need a babysitter) and Londyn worked together to write us each a cute little note and gave us a piece of candy that Londyn knows we all like. Here are the notes and notice how Londyn wrote I Love You on all of them. It was almost like Londyn knew I had a bad day and wanted to brighten it. Well brighten it she did and of course I cried...but what's new!
Mindi's note...What a great surprise!
Matt's note - We are so thankful for such a thoughtful daughter!

Of course Londyn couldn't forget Boo... You are such an AWESOME sister!

We just love you Londyn. You are such a special part of our family!

Hearts...

All school year long Londyn has been hoping for the chance to bring Hearts, the webkin, home and finally her turn has come! Londyn got to keep Hearts for 3 days and had to write in the traveling journal what she did with her. Londyn had so many plans of all the things she wanted to do and well most of them just couldn't be done, i.e. Lagoon and swimming, but she did get to take Hearts to sign up for swimming. After some serious thought, here are some of the things she decided on...
Londyn and Hearts....What a good pet it was! Never made a peep!

Londyn showing Hearts how to color. What a great teacher Londyn is!

Londyn thought it would be a good idea to start showing
Hearts the importance of homework.

1st day down and boy, where they both tired!

Here is Londyn's journal entry telling all about their fun.
This was such a fun activity for Londyn. She really enjoyed having the "responsibility" of taking care of something that was just hers. She did great! Londyn really has a natural sense of caring for others and that will make her an AWESOME mother some day! We are so proud of her.

Giving the Dogs a bath..

Most of the time we don't give our pups a bath simply because they get hair cuts so often, we made an exception this time due to the spilling of milk all over Belle. Brooklyn has never seen the dogs get baths so we thought she would like to watch and boy were we right! I wish this had sound because these two girls were giggling the entire time the poor dogs suffered through the torture of water!
Belle getting her bath with the 2 little helpers

Almost done!
Of course she is done and now has to run around the house like a crazy wild animal!

Maddy's turn...For some reason Brooklyn thought Maddy's bath was so funny.

The look on Maddy's face tells it all, she is completely miserable!
Finally done! Thanks Daddy, you are awesome!

Out of the mouth of Babes...

I am often times amazed at what goes through little ones minds. I will never forget while I was pregnant with Brooklyn I kept complaining about how I was running out of room for the baby. Well, Londyn had heard me say this many times so in an effort to help she told me that "if you fart it will make more room." All I could do is laugh and thank her for the suggestion. Now it's Brooklyn's turn....When ever Brooklyn gets hurt she comes straight to me and asks for me to kiss it and thankfully I have the power in that kiss to make it all better. Well, yesterday Brooklyn had hit her bum climbing into her chair and was complaining that her butt had an "owie" so she proceed to ask...."Mommy, kiss my butt".  As much as I wanted to make her feel better I have decided to draw the line there. That sweet request has made me realize how much power a little loving care can bring. I just love those girls!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!! 1-1-11, what a interesting date! Here's to hoping this year brings good health, a happy family, with any luck hitting the lottery! Of course every year I start off my resolutions with the good old tried and true...LOSE WEIGHT! I hope this one sticks this year! :)  The next resolution is to find ways to spend more quality time with Londyn and Brooklyn. It seems the older I get the faster time flies and next thing I know Londyn and Boo will be be grown and with their own families. They have grown so fast already. Last but not least my third resolution is to get prepared. I keep hearing about getting my food storage done and having everything ready for whatever might come our way, so I figured I'd better put that high on my list.  I hope everyone has a healthy and safe year!
